There are many ways to express support for the people of Tohoku, who were hit hard by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, and its aftermath. Joe Price, a renowned collector of the art of Japan’s Edo Period (1603-1868), including screen paintings by Ito Jakuchu, will show support in this own way. Asahi’s regular “profile” column on January 5 introduced Price, who will carry out his plan to “show something beautiful to the people of Tohoku” by holding an exhibition of his collection in Sendai, Morioka, and Fukushima starting in March. Price, who fell in love with the work of Jakuchu 60 years ago in New York, said in an interview with Asahi that he hopes the young people who will revitalize Tohoku in the future will come and see his collection.
