Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) released on Jan. 20 a report which set out guidelines for the management side for the 2015 spring wage-hike negotiations. Keidanren supported a pay-scale hike, which increases the level of wages, as “one of the options to raise wages” for the second straight year. The largest business lobby urged member companies that are enjoying improved earnings to raise wages by taking all possible steps, including a regular pay raise, bonuses and benefits.

Keidanren stipulated the wording “a pay-scale increase” in its report this time, clarifying its stance as an economic organization of “making utmost efforts for a pay raise.” It backed a pay-scale hike last year for the first time in six years. It used an indirect expression in the report, writing that “a response different from that taken in recent years could be one option.” (Abridged)
