 The Yomiuri Shimbun conducted a mail-in public opinion survey across the nation to probe public attitudes on sports. In the survey, respondents were asked whether they are interested in the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in the summer of 2020. In response to this question, a total of 83% answered “yes.” Meanwhile, respondents were also asked whether they approve of Sapporo’s candidacy to host the Winter Olympics in 2026. To this question as well, “yes” accounted for a total of 85%. The survey results show the general public’s high expectations for hosting the Olympic Games. The survey was carried out from mid-January through mid-February. (Abridged)
