A team from Nara University of Education Junior High School won the first prize in the junior high school category of the World Robot Olympiad, a robotic development competition held in Sochi, Russia, in November 2014.

The Astro Boys, consisting of three second-year students, developed a robot capable of scanning rough surfaces on a planet and duplicating them in a remote location using blocks. The team’s idea of utilizing a sensor for home video game consoles contributed to the team’s victory in the competition.

About 400 teams from primary and secondary schools in 47 countries and regions participated in the competition. (Abridged)
