Successful female candidates hit record high of 16% in municipal assembly races

 The number of female candidates elected in the 295 municipal assembly elections held nationwide increased by 63 from 1,040 in the previous polls in 2011 to 1,103. The percentage of successful female candidates accounted for 16.1% of all assembly seats that were contested this time, surpassing the previous record of 14.6%.

 

 The percentage of successful female candidates among all female candidates was 87.5%, topping the record high of 86.0% recorded in 1995.
