Yukio Edano, secretary general of the largest opposition Democratic Party of Japan, criticized the reaffirmation by the top leaders of Japan and the United States of the plan to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps’ Futenma Air Station (in Ginowan City) to the Henoko area of Nago City, by saying: “As Japan’s government, he has completely forgotten to give consideration to Okinawa. Even though he made such a promise to the U.S., it will be impossible to realize the plan. It is an irresponsible promise.” He made this comment in response to a reporter’s question in Tokyo.
Japanese Communist Party Chairman Kazuo Shii released a statement that writes: “The Prime Minister emphasized his determination to go ahead with the relocation plan no matter what, while ignoring the will of the people of Okinawa. The JCP absolutely cannot accept the relocation plan.” (Abridged)
