The government has started looking into creating in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a team of experts to collect information on terrorism. The team will be comprised of personnel on loan from the Defense Ministry, the National Police Agency, the Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office, and other agencies. This is a measure in response to the hostage taking of Japanese nationals by the extremist organization “Islamic State (IS).” The creation of the information-gathering team will be discussed in an international terrorism meeting to be held at the Prime Minister’s Office [Kantei] on May 29.
