Kyushu Electric Power Co. has disclosed that it expects the No. 1 reactor at its Sendai nuclear power plant to be reactivated in mid-August instead of late July as initially scheduled due to a delay in the inspection of facilities. It remains to be seen whether the reactor will be reactivated before August when power demand is at its peak.

The Nuclear Regulation Authority has been conducting inspections at the No. 1 reactor at the Sendai nuclear power plant since March for final verification before restarting the reactor. According to the utility firm, the inspection process for the emergency generators used for both the No. 1 and 2 reactors is the most time consuming of all the inspections that need to be conducted.
