The Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) will hold joint training with the Philippine navy on June 23-24 in the South China Sea, sources informed Sankei yesterday. The joint training is for disaster-relief activities. The MSDF’s P-3C surveillance aircraft and a Philippine navy vessel and aircraft will participate in the training. Although the MSDF and Philippine navy will not carry out warning and surveillance activities, the joint drill is aimed at keeping in check China’s unilateral reclamation activities in the South China Sea.
