(Nikkei: June 19, 2015 – p.4)

The government decided on a policy on June 18 in a meeting of Council for Science, Technology and Innovation to enhance the development of the cyber security technology. By developing a new system by 2020, the year of the Tokyo Olympics, the government will prepare for cyber terrorism. Cyber security will be added to the research subjects of “Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) that supports advanced fundamental research. The government will select researchers who will direct the study within the month of June.

The government will spend 2 to 3 billion yen a year to establish “log detection technology” that will quickly detect illegal access or alteration. In addition, the government will develop a high-speed IC chip that can create a strong code to counter cyberattacks. The government will protect infrastructure that provide public services designated by National center of Incident readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) such as administrative and medical services. The administration will also lobby private sector entities such as electric and gas companies to introduce the new technology.
