World Heritage site listing
In connection with the registration of “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution” as UNESCO World Heritage site, both sides agreed to cooperate in the listing of each other’s sites.
Comfort women issue
Japan and the ROK reiterated their basic positions. They will continue to discuss this issue at bureau-chief-level talks. They agreed to persevere in bilateral dialogue.
Security bills
The ROK expressed appreciation for Japan’s efforts to ensure transparency in its explanations so far.
Japan-ROK summit
Both sides affirmed the importance of holding a Japan-ROK summit. They agreed to work together for holding a summit at an appropriate time.
Japan-China-ROK summit
Both sides agreed that the trilateral summit should be held as soon as possible within this year.
Mutual participation in commemorative events
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Park Geun-hye will each attend separate events on June 22 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
North Korea issues
The two sides affirmed trilateral cooperation among Japan, the U.S., and the ROK in dealing with North Korea’s nuclear arms and missile issues. They also agreed to cooperate in resolving humanitarian issues, including the DPRK’s abduction of Japanese nationals.
Exchange of visits between foreign ministers
Both sides agreed on exchange of visits between foreign ministers. ROK Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se invited Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida to visit the ROK this year. Kishida will arrange for a visit at an appropriate time.
Spratly (Nansha in Chinese) Islands
Both sides explained their basic positions. They affirmed that this is an important issue for both countries.
