(Nikkei: July 7, 2015, Evening edition – Top play)

The government is set to bolster security against cyberattacks through the development of new technology and personnel savvy about information security, with a particular eye toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will develop technology capable of monitoring and analyzing networks and devices simultaneously to detect cyberattacks and virus infections instantly. It will launch the project in 2016 and transfer the technology to the private sector for commercialization in 2020. It envisages establishing knowhow for predicting signs of cyberattacks as well.

The ministry also plans to launch a national certification system for cybersecurity personnel in the spring of 2016 as part of efforts to foster experts across the public and private sectors. (Abridged)
