Gov’t picks new METI Vice Minister, Energy Agency head

 The government will appoint Ikuro Sugawara, director-general of the economic and industrial policy bureau at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as a new vice minister to succeed Tsuneyoshi Tatsuoka. It will also name Deputy Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Satoshi Kusakabe to succeed Agency for Natural Recourses and Energy Commissioner Takayuki Ueda.

 

 Sugawara has been playing an active role in implementing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s initiatives to lower corporate taxes and formulate a vision for growth. Kusakabe has experience in policy-making in the energy field and is well-versed in overall industry policies.

 

 Their appointments will become effective within the month.
