(Asahi: August 11, 2015—p. 4)

The Cabinet Office has released findings from its public opinion survey on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. In the survey, respondents were asked whether they are interested in the Tokyo Olympics. In response to this question, “yes” accounted for a total of 81.9%. Respondents were also asked whether they would like to actually watch athletes play or compete. To this question, a total of 51.2% answered “yes.” The government-sponsored survey was conducted June 11-21 across the nation on a face-to-face interview basis. For the survey, a total of 3,000 persons were chosen from among those aged 20 and over.

In the meantime, respondents were also asked whether they are interested in the Tokyo Paralympics. To this question, “yes” added up to a total of 70.3%, broken down into “very” at 18.4% and “somewhat” at 51.9%. When asked whether they’d like to actually watch athletes play or compete, “definitely” and “if possible” totaled 36.4%. (Abridged)
