The following is the monthly ranking of bestsellers released by book wholesaler Nippan Shuppan Hanbai Inc. (NIPPAN) on September 30:
1. Hibana by Naoki Matayoshi
Hibana is a much-talked about book written by a well-known Japanese comedian. This is Matayoshi’s first novel. The author writes about laughter and the meaning of life. Matayoshi writes honestly about the foundation of human existence.
The book won this year’s Akutagawa Prize.
2. Ningen no Bunzai by Ayako Sono
[Being human as we are]
Ayako Sono, known as a conservative, says in her book that unless you know your place, you won’t be able to live in peace and there is a limit to what we can accomplish by our efforts. The 84-year-old novelist’s comment in the Sankei Shimubun that immigrants in Japan should be assigned separate living zones segregated by race, citing South African Apartheid as an example, drew widespread criticism.
3. Kuroko no Basuke – Replace 6 by Sawako Hirasawa, illustrated by Tadatoshi Fujimaki
[Kuroko’s Basketball: Replace VI]
Kuroko’s Basketball: Replace VI is the sixth light novel of Kuroko no Basuke, which is a Japanese sports manga series. Kuroko no Basuke has sold more than 2.3 million copies.
4. Dai Hogen by Naoki Hyakuta
Naoki Hyakuta is a right-wing, conservative novelist who has close ties with Prime Minister Abe. He has made controversial remarks, such as that the massacre of Chinese civilians by Japanese soldiers in Nanjing in 1937 never happened. In this book, he harshly criticizes young people, the media, and politicians.
5. Kikudake de Jiritsushinkei ga Totonou CD book by Toko Shinoda
[Your autonomic nerves will function if you just listen to this CD book]
The book explains autonomic nerves and why autonomic nerves are the key to human health.
