Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) General Council Chairman Toshihiro Nikai, who is on a visit to China, met with Li Xiaolin, chairman of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, in Beijing on Oct. 31. According to a participant in this meeting, Li said that “concerns have been expressed” on Japan’s recently enacted security laws and asked if everything is okay. Nikai told him “there is nothing to worry about.”
After this meeting, Nikai attended a ceremony for a project to invite 500 Chinese high school students to Japan from January next year. He announced that arrangements are being made for some students to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He encouraged the students to “make this visit a great success and play an important role in promoting Japan-China friendship.”
Nikai also met with Vice Premier Liu Yandong, who is in charge of cultural affairs, in Beijing on the evening of the same day. They sat together at a concert by the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
