 China’s maritime advances

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe: China’s actions to change the status quo unilaterally constitute a cause of concern for the region.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull: I totally agree with you.

Abe: We support the U.S. Navy’s Freedom of Navigation operations.

Abe, Turnbull: We share common concern about China’s actions. We will cooperate in maintaining the international maritime order based on the rule of law.

 Terrorist attacks in Paris

Abe: This is a challenge to the values we defend. The international community should unite and condemn the attacks staunchly.

Turnbull: This is an attack on all nations that believe in freedom. We are determined to fight with France.

 Selection of new submarine

Abe: Japan-Australia cooperation has great strategic significance for Asia and the Pacific. Japan is seriously thinking of building [the submarines] in Australia.

Turnbull: We will proceed in a fair manner.
