Following is the gist of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s meeting with reporters traveling with him on his trip to Antalya, Turkey:
Extraordinary Diet session
Considering the diplomatic schedule and work on tax reforms and budget formulation for the next fiscal year, I’m afraid I have to say that convening an (extraordinary) Diet session this year will be difficult.
Regular Diet session
I would like to convene the regular Diet session on Jan. 4. The ruling parties will hold in-depth discussions on the ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
It is necessary to prop up the economy without fail. I will issue instructions on formulating a supplementary budget as soon as I return to Japan (on Nov. 23). It is necessary to submit this budget to the Diet as soon as possible, implement it, and execute the first batch of policies for empowering all citizens and for TPP measures promptly.
Japan-China, Japan-ROK relations
Ample time was devoted to the Japan-China and Japan-ROK summit meetings in Seoul. There is no need to hold more summits on the sidelines of the upcoming international conferences.
We will coordinate for President Vladimir Putin to visit Japan at an appropriate time. It is important for the two leaders to engage in dialogue.
