A number of local municipal assemblies have adopted position papers opposing the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps’ Futenma Air Station (in Ginowan City, Okinawa Prefecture) to the Henoko district in Nago City. In this connection, there was a rally in Musashino City, Tokyo, calling on the city assembly to withdraw its position paper opposing the relocation to Henoko. The rally was sponsored by the “association of Musashino residents to listen to the true voice of Okinawa.”

During the rally, Masako Ganaha, who delivered a speech at the UN Human Rights Committee in September, pointed out that “people who have strong ideologies are steadily maneuvering to control (the situation) in ways we cannot imagine.”

Ganaha then voiced doubts, saying, “The position paper adopted by the Musashino City Assembly apparently backs those who are maneuvering. I want to ask those who approved the position paper what they think of this reality.”
