Four House of Representatives members who bolted the Japan Innovation Party (JIP), led by former Environment Minister Sakihito Ozawa, and Assembly to Energize Japan policy chief Taro Yamada announced the launching of a new policy group, “Somo no Kai” at a news conference held at the Diet on Nov. 18.

Ozawa, the group leader, indicated at the news conference that they will be working with the Osaka Ishin no Kai, which stands for similar policies, such as the doshu system of consolidating prefectures into larger administrative units.

For now, the group will conduct its activities as a political organization that does not meet the requirements for a political party, but Ozawa mentioned the possibility of forming a party in the future.

Yamada will not leave the Assembly to Energize Japan.
