The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) presented an outline of its requests for the FY2015 supplementary budget at a joint meeting of Liberal Democratic Party divisions involved with foreign policy on Dec. 16. MOFA will request a total of approximately 210 billion yen, with allocations of around 120 billion yen for the refugee issue and other humanitarian and counterterrorism policies. The budget requests will be approved officially at a cabinet meeting on Dec. 18.
Meanwhile, MOFA’s budget requests for FY2016 will total 756.8 billion yen, an increase of 71.4 billion yen over the current fiscal year, in light of Japan’s hosting the G7 Ise-Shima Summit.
