Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met on Dec. 21 with Tatsuya Kato, former Seoul bureau chief of the Sankei Shimbun, at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence. The Seoul Central District Court recently acquitted Kato of the defamation charge. He had been indicted for allegedly damaging South Korean President Park Guen-hye’s honor in a column he wrote. Abe told him, “I’m glad about the acquittal,” acknowledging Kato’s patience during his travail.
