Top LDP policy chief insists on importance of removing comfort women statue

Yomiuri took up remarks made during an LDP meeting on Wednesday by Policy Research Council Chairwoman Inada, in which she indicated that the success of the Japan-ROK accord on comfort women hinges on the removal of the comfort women memorial from in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul by the Park administration. The politician strongly urged the South Korean government to relocate the statue by saying: “The settlement of the comfort women dispute is primarily premised upon the removal.” According to Sankei, some of the participants insisted that Japan should not contribute 1 billion yen to the envisaged ROK fund unless the memorial is removed.
