Most Tuesday evening papers ran front- or inside-page reports on press remarks by Foreign Minister Kishida, during which he said that senior diplomats from the U.S., Japan, and South Korea will hold talks in Tokyo on Saturday. Kishida was quoted as saying that the three nations will confirm close cooperation in response to North Korea’s recent nuclear test. The papers wrote that Deputy Secretary of State Blinken, Vice Foreign Minister Saiki, and South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Lim will participate in the talks. Kishida welcomed the U.S. military’s recent dispatch of a B-52 bomber over South Korea by saying that the deployment reflects the United States’ strong commitment to fulfill its role to ensure the peace and stability of the region.
