Saturday’s Yomiuri wrote in its political news section on page 4 that Foreign Minister Kishida, D/S Blinken, and South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Lim agreed during their talks in Tokyo on Friday to strengthen cooperation between the U.S., Japan, and the ROK in dealing with North Korea. The paper wrote that D/S Blinken said that the international community should respond resolutely to actions by North Korea that pose security threats.

In a related story, Nikkei wrote today that the three nations plan to assist ASEAN members in enforcing tighter sanctions on the DPRK by sharing knowhow on maritime cargo inspections through personnel training and provision of equipment to detect nuclear and missile material concealed in cargo bound for North Korea. Senior diplomats from these countries will meet in Tokyo tomorrow to discuss enhanced cooperation on the nonproliferation front.
