Several Saturday mornings papers reported on press remarks made on Friday by Finance Minister Aso, during which he commented on the possibility of resuming a currency swap agreement with the ROK. However, the finance minister added that Tokyo has yet to receive a request from Seoul to hold discussions on the issue. Asahi conjectured that the recent improvement in Japan-ROK relations, including their bilateral agreement on the comfort women issue, is behind the momentum toward the resumption of a currency swap deal.
