Tuesday evening’s Yomiuri ran an inside-page report saying that JAXA and JICA will launch a joint project this fall to monitor illegal logging in tropical forests in areas around the equator in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America by using the Advanced Land Observing Satellite “DAICHI-2.” The paper wrote that the satellite’s predecessor “DAICHI” achieved successful results in monitoring illegal logging in the Amazon rainforest and that the new project will help developing nations to monitor illegal acts by providing satellite data.
