Several papers ran inside-page reports on a meeting of the Asian Senior-level Talks on Non-Proliferation (ASTOP) in Tokyo on Wednesday, in which 17 nations, including Japan, the U.S., China, South Korea, and ASEAN nations, participated. The papers wrote that the participants shared the view that dealing with North Korea’s nuclear development is a common challenge in the region and agreed on the need for strengthening export and border control to prevent the transfer of technology and materials for weapons of mass destruction.
