Sankei wrote in its city news section on page 24 that Richard O’Barry, a dolphin activist who was featured in “The Cove,” a documentary film critical of drive dolphin hunting in Taiji, Wakayama Prefecture, was denied entry to Japan and is being detained at an immigration facility at Narita Airport. The paper learned this from his lawyer, who said O’Barry was planning to enter Japan to do research on drive dolphin hunting in Taiji and tour Kyoto until early February. Wednesday evening’s Mainichi ran a similar inside-page report.
