South Korean exports to Japan fall below 5% of total exports for the first time

(Sankei: January 22, 2016 – p. 8)

South Korean exports to Japan in 2015 fell below 5% of that nation’s total export volume for the first time since the normalization of ties between the two countries in 1965, it was learned from a Korea International Trade Association report released on Jan. 21. Exports to Japan in 2015 dropped by 20.5% year on year to $25.5 billion (about 3 trillion yen) and accounted for 4.9% of South Korea’s total exports. This decrease also reflects the impact of a weak yen and a strong won.
