LDP decides to call for removal of comfort women statue at Japanese Embassy in Seoul

(Yomiuri: January 27, 2016 – p. 4)

On Jan. 26 at a joint meeting of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s foreign affairs and other divisions, the party discussed the agreement between Japan and South Korea on the comfort women issue and adopted a resolution to call for the early removal of the statue of a girl symbolizing the comfort women that has been erected in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul. The resolution stipulates that the statue “undermines our country’s overseas establishment’s peace and dignity and could violate the Vienna Convention.”
