LDP releases outline of bill to protect Japan’s interests in EEZ

 The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held a meeting on Feb. 4 of its Special Committee on Space and Ocean Development, chaired by Lower House Steering Committee Chairman Takeo Kawamura, and presented an outline of a bill designed to protect Japan’s interests in its exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Ichita Yamamoto, former minister in charge of Okinawa and Northern Territories, said in the meeting: “In case something happens, we hope to create a situation in which we can counter based on domestic law as soon as possible,” indicating that the LDP aims to passing the bill during the current Diet session.
