The Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party will not respond to the opposition parties’ call for deliberating counterproposals they have recently submitted to challenge the security legislation, which will go into effect next month.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has long criticized the opposition parties for failing to present counterproposals and fulfill their responsibility toward the public.

If the ruling parties, which control the Diet, reject discussing the counterproposals, these will be automatically scrapped when the Diet adjourns. The opposition parties, meanwhile, will grill government over its stance at budget committees’ sessions in both the House of Representatives and House of Councillors. (Abridged)
