The national federation of unions of workers at Japan Agricultural Cooperatives-related organizations held its 110th extraordinary convention on Feb. 18-19 in Tokyo. The federation confirmed its policy for annual spring labor-management wage negotiations. It also agreed to prevent the ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement and adopted a special resolution titled “Put a stop to the Abe administration and open up new horizons for our livelihoods and workplaces.”

In a speech, Central Committee Chairman Saito criticized the laws related to “JA reform,” saying “The Liberal Democratic Party is trying to shift responsibility for failure in agricultural policy.” He stressed: “The TPP broad agreement that will exploit foodstuffs for the profit of multinational corporations is outrageous. In spring wage negotiations we will fight against misrule.” He then called for the need for the federation to actively work for the House of Councillors election this summer. (Abridged)
