The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has informally decided to appoint former agriculture minister Koya Nishikawa to serve as chairman of a special committee on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement to be set up in the House of Representatives as early as this month. It will also appoint Takamori Yoshikawa as the principle director of the committee. Nishikawa, who is now serving in his sixth term in the Lower House, has previously served as chairman of the LDP Research Commission on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Strategy.
