In a meeting of its standing executive committee, the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) confirmed yesterday a policy of moving forward with the selection of candidates for single-seat constituencies in an election for the House of Representatives. The JCP has now shifted its initial policy of refraining from fielding its own candidates in order to file unified candidates by opposition parties, because the newly formed Democratic Party (DP; Minshinto in Japanese) is expressing disapproval of cooperating with the JCP for the Lower House election. Yoshiki Yamashita, head of the JCP secretariat, disclosed this policy change. (Abridged)
