Secretary Kerry to visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

TV-Asahi reported at noon that Secretary of State Kerry will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum for the first time when he visits Hiroshima for the G7 Foreign Ministerial meeting slated for April 10-11, saying that it was a long-cherished desire of FM Kishida, who is from Hiroshima, to invite ministers from nuclear powers to the museum. The network said since there is the deep-rooted view in the U.S. that the atomic bombings were justified, some officials close to the Secretary were fearful that Japan may ask the Secretary for an apology and concerned about the possible impact on the upcoming presidential election. The network said FM Kishida is planning to make the Secretary’s visit a positive and future-oriented visit, hoping that it will pave the way for President Obama’s visit to the city.
