NHK reported on its website this afternoon on a meeting between DM Nakatani and Lt. Gen. Toolan, Commanding General of the U.S. Marine Forces Pacific, at the Ministry of Defense today, during which they agreed to steadily carry out the Futenma relocation plan even though the construction work is currently suspended due to a court-mediated settlement. According to the network, Nakatani said: “Although the construction work is suspended due to a court settlement, relocating the base to Henoko is the only solution and we would like to make all-out efforts to relocate the base as early as possible in order to remove the danger at the base.” Lt. Gen. Toolan reportedly responded by saying: “It is important to steadily move the relocation plan forward, and we would like to cooperate to accomplish the plan.” The two officials also confirmed close bilateral cooperation toward North Korea.
