FM Kishida requests cooperation from Ambassador Kennedy for G7 foreign ministerial

Kyodo News reported on a meeting held this afternoon between Ambassador Kennedy and Foreign Minister Kishida at his office in MOFA, during which the foreign minister requested cooperation in making the upcoming G7 foreign ministers’ meeting a success. Quoting a GOJ source as saying that the Ambassador, who is close to Secretary of State Kerry, was instrumental in deciding on the Secretary’s planned visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on April 11, Kyodo said that the foreign minister expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador. The report added that the Secretary plans to hold bilateral talks with Kishida on the sidelines of the G7 ministerial, speculating that the two officials will confirm that the United States and Japan will take the lead in effectuating the TPP agreement at an early date.
