Russian Upper House speaker to visit Japan later this year

Jiji Press reported that the Russian foreign ministry released a statement today saying that Russian Upper House Speaker
Matvienko, a close aide of President Putin’s, will visit Japan in the latter half of this year. Noting that Russian Lower House Speaker Naryshkin is also expected to visit Japan to attend a Russian cultural festival in June, Jiji said the statement stressed that the visits to Japan by the two officials “will become important events for the parliamentary exchanges between the two nations.”
