“X-2” fighter prototype completes maiden flight

image002TBS reported at noon that the X-2 fighter prototype, the first domestically produced stealth fighter in Japan, made its maiden flight from Nagoya Airport this morning. The network said the X-2 fighter is being developed by the Ministry of Defense and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, adding that the aircraft prototype flew for about 15 km and landed at an ASDF base in Gifu. NHK, Fuji-TV, and TV-Asahi carried similar stories. Fuji-TV said that the data collected from the X-2 fighter will be used for the development of the F-2 fighter’s successor.
