(Note) Figures rounded off. “No answer” omitted. Figures in parentheses denote the results of the survey conducted April 18–19, 2015.

Polling methodology: The survey was conducted during the two-day period of April 16–17 over the telephone across the nation on a computer-aided random digit sampling (RDS) basis. The survey excluded telephone numbers in municipalities designated as “difficult-to-return” zones due to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. The survey sample for the April 2015 poll was age 20 and over, whereas the sample for the April 2016 poll was age 18 and over. Because the voting age is to be lowered to 18 from this summer’s Upper House elections, the Mainichi Shimbun has included 18- and 19-year-olds in the survey sample starting from the survey conducted on April 16–17, 2016. A total of 1,671 households with one or more persons age 18 or over were sampled. Answers were obtained from 1,009 persons (60%).
