All broadcasters reported at noon that visiting PM Abe met with his French counterpart Hollande on Monday in Paris, saying that the two leaders agreed on the need for G7 nations to increase public spending amid the global economic slowdown. TV-Asahi reported that although PM Abe is hoping to highlight the G7 commitment to fiscal spending at the upcoming Ise-Shima Summit, it remains to be seen whether he can persuade the G7 nations to take concerted action as Germany remains cautious toward fiscal spending.
