NHK reported this morning that PM Abe, who is currently visiting Belgium, held a joint press conference with European Council President Tusk and European Commission President Juncker in Brussels on Tuesday, during which they expressed hope to accelerate talks toward swiftly reaching a broad agreement on an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) between Japan and the EU. PM Abe reportedly said at the press conference: “Flexible budget spending is required along with speedier structural reforms to avoid the risk of an economic crisis and to revitalize the global economy.”
