The 14th Dalai Lama (80), the preeminent leader of Tibetan Buddhism, will visit Japan from May 9 to May 13. This is his first trip to Japan since April last year. The Dalai Lama has visited Japan almost every year since the late 1990s. He will lecture in Osaka for four days from May 10 during his trip this time.

Historically, the Dalai Lama has been considered the political and religious leader of Tibetan society. After devolving his political responsibilities to the prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile (Dharamsala, northern India) in 2011, the Dalai Lama has been focusing on religious activities.
