Saturday morning’s Nikkei reported from Washington on a speech on Thursday by visiting Minister for Regional Revitalization Ishiba, who called for constitutional revision to expand the scope of collective self-defense by the SDF with the goal of further reinforcing the U.S.-Japan alliance. Ishiba also referred to a possible revision of the bilateral security treaty to update the existing division of labor between the SDF and the U.S. military.
