Trump will want Tokyo to bear US defense spending on Japan

Businessman and presumptive Republican Party nominee Donald Trump (69) said in an interview with CNN on Wednesday that as President he would request Japan bear the entire cost of U.S. military spending for the defense of Japan under the U.S.-Japan Security Treaty.

The amount is unspecified since Trump did not mention a figure.

Trump intends to present the same request to South Korea and Germany. If the governments refuse to comply, he says he will carry through with his original proposal to withdraw the U.S. military from those counties. Since Trump has secured the GOP nomination and will possibly become the next U.S. President, his remarks will likely cause repercussions.
