NHK, Fuji-TV, and TV-Asahi reported at noon on the ongoing Workers’ Party Congress in North Korea and Kim Jong Un’s remarks on Sunday that North Korea is a “responsible nuclear power.” The networks quoted Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga as telling reporters this morning: “North Korea has failed to abide by the UNSC resolutions, the joint statement of the Six-Party Talks, and the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration; demonstrated its position to continue its nuclear and missile development; and made unilateral claims about Japan. This is totally unacceptable. The Japanese government will continue to work closely with other partners under the principles of ‘dialogue and pressure’ and ‘action for action’ and make all-out efforts to comprehensively resolve various issues related to North Korea.”
