This morning’s two major Okinawa papers reported extensively on the decision by the operator of Universal Studios Japan to withdraw its plan to open a theme park in northern Okinawa so as to focus on managing its amusement facility in Osaka. The dailies said although local officials and businessmen were shocked by the cancellation, some of them had been skeptical about the business plan from the beginning since the idea was pursued primarily by the Abe administration with the goal of mitigating local opposition to the FRF construction in Henoko by offering an “eye-catching” economic incentive.
