Vietnamese leader calls for Japan to play greater role in South China Sea

Several Sunday papers published remarks made to the Japanese press corps on Saturday by Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who plans to visit Japan soon to meet with the G7 leaders on the margins of the Ise-Shima Summit. Nguyen reportedly expressed hope for Japan to take leadership on the issue of China’s adventurism in the South China Sea by saying: “As a regional power, Japan should play an increasingly active role in finding a peaceful resolution.”
